About
Downeast Wilderness Experience was formed in 2010 to keep the Maine Forestry Campgrounds at Cranberry, Sabao, and Deer Lakes open. These State campgrounds had been State funded and maintained for years but were on private land. The organization has been able to keep these beautiful properties open to the public by meeting with the landowners and reaching an agreement. As a local business, they are pleased to share this portion of their beautiful County and State with visitors. Many people are third and fourth-generation campers, and the campgrounds remain open after all these years due to the efforts of Downeast Wilderness Experience.
