About

Tinker Island is a 230-acre preserve located on the northern half of 430-acre Tinker Island in Blue Hill Bay, Tremont. The preserve features scenic vistas along its expansive beach-lined shores, with abundant spots for landing small boats, picnicking, and beachcombing. The island has a rich history, with remnants of past settlements visible today, including a wagon road, cellar holes, sills, wells, and stone walls. The preserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including nesting osprey and bald eagles, porcupine, snowshoe hare, white-tailed deer, and red squirrel. Visitors can camp at designated campsites, relax on the beach, and explore the island's five distinct plant communities. The preserve is accessible by boat, with a public ramp available in Seal Cove on Mount Desert Island.
