Originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the recreation area provides ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking. Located less than an hour from Helen and Dahlonega, GA, and less than two hours from Atlanta, it's conveniently positioned for weekend getaways and family vacations. The campground features 31 scenic campsites with various amenities and two-story cabin rentals accommodating up to 10 people, making it suitable for families and groups. Visitors can explore nearby attractions including Brasstown Bald, Georgia's tallest mountain with 360-degree views, and the adjacent Morganton Point Campground. The recreation area is operated by FIND Outdoors in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
