About
Located at the Headwaters of the Columbia River Basin, the continental divide surrounds the community of Butte, MT offering a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. This southernmost district has several campgrounds, picnic areas, and even a rockhounding (crystals) area. Madison Ranger District is the easternmost district on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and surrounds the town of Ennis on three sides. The district is in the northwest portion of the forest and surrounds the town of Philipsburg. The Wisdom District lies on the western edge of the forest near the border with Idaho. The Wise River Ranger District is also located within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation.
