Bolar Mountain Recreation Area is a scenic campground destination located on the northern shore of Lake Moomaw, a 2,530-acre manmade lake in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. The area features four campgrounds—Sugar Ridge, Campground 1, Campground 2, and Campground 3—offering a variety of camping experiences with amenities including potable water, flush toilets, showers, and dump stations. The recreation area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, offering boating, fishing for trout and bass, water skiing, swimming, and 11 miles of hiking trails leading to scenic overlooks. The lake's 43 miles of wooded shoreline and surrounding Appalachian hardwood forests provide a peaceful natural setting. Visitors should note that cell service is minimal to nonexistent, making it a true disconnect destination. The area is conveniently located near the town of Warm Springs, which offers dining and shopping options.
