Big Lake State Forest Campground Upper is a rustic campground located on the east shore of Big Lake, offering 15 tent and small trailer sites. The campground provides direct access to the Baraga Plains ORV Trail and excellent fall waterfowl hunting in the Baraga Plains State Waterfowl Management Area. Visitors can enjoy paddling and fishing opportunities, as well as a small concrete boat launch suitable for small boats, canoes, and kayaks. The campground is located 9.2 miles north of Covington via M-28 West, West Plains Road, and Big Lake Road. It offers stunning river and lakefront settings, perfect for fishing, boating, and paddling. The campground has vault toilets, potable water available from a hand-pump well, and no electrical hookups. Overnight fees and registration procedures are posted at the information kiosk at each campground, with a maximum stay of 15 days.
