Yancey Branch Shelter

Spanish Fort, Alabama

About

The Yancey Branch Shelter is an elevated single shelter located on the north end of Yancey Bay, part of the larger Bay Minette Basin and the eastern side of the Bartram Canoe Trail in the Lower Delta. The shelter faces north, looking up river, providing paddlers with an excellent view of the Delta. It offers ample room for 6 people, a porch area outside the main screened area, and a fixed dock for loading and unloading. The shelter includes a cooking table, benches, eye hooks for hammocks, and a curtained privacy area. The surrounding area is a brackish marsh influenced by river flows and tides, sheltering a great number of species of fish, crustaceans, and wildlife. Please beware of alligators in the area. The shelter is typically not impacted by high or low water due to its elevated structure and deeper sloughs. However, extreme water levels may impact the navigability into and out of the fixed shelter dock.
