Winter Island Park occupies the southern third of Winter Island, an approximately 54-acre peninsula located on Salem Neck at the mouth of Salem Harbor in Salem, Massachusetts. Just minutes northeast of downtown Salem, the park is accessible by foot, bike, Salem Trolley, car, and boat. The park has welcomed maritime visitors for centuries and features a deep historical significance, with pre-contact archaeological sites dating back over 6,000 years and Fort Pickering's masonry established in 1643. Today, Winter Island Park offers extensive recreational resources including a historic fort and lighthouse, public beaches, a state-owned boat ramp, a state-financed pier, a community sailing program, and both RV and tent camping facilities. The park serves residents and visitors of all ages and abilities, with ongoing restoration projects focused on coastal erosion management and preservation of its historically significant properties.
