About
The San Juan National Forest offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, OHV riding, alpine and nordic skiing, horseback riding, and camping. The forest includes four Wilderness Areas and a National Monument. Visitors can explore the culturally-rich Chimney Rock National Monument, a step back in time to imagine the landscape as it was a thousand years ago. The forest also has scenic forest roads for driving and offers recreational opportunities for fishing, biking, and more. However, following the 2025 flood damage, visitors should expect dangerous conditions on roads and trails, including deep mud, washouts, continued flooding, instability, and changing conditions.
