Modoc Campground is located on the shoreline of J. Strom Thurmond Lake, a sprawling 70,000+ acre reservoir with over 1,000 miles of shoreline situated just five miles from the Lake Thurmond Visitor Center and Dam in South Carolina. The campground is surrounded by a mix of pine and hardwood trees that provide shade and visual interest, creating an ideal setting for outdoor recreation and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy abundant water activities including boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, and fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. Beyond water sports, the campground offers hiking trails, biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing opportunities where visitors regularly see southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer. The facility includes multiple bathhouses with flush toilets and showers, a boat ramp with courtesy dock, playground, dump station, and helpful camp hosts at the gatehouse.
