Sunset-Union Valley Campground is situated on the shores of Union Valley Reservoir within Eldorado National Forest, surrounded by towering cedar and ponderosa pines at an elevation of 5,000 feet. The campground is aptly named for its fantastic sunset views over the lake and offers a Mediterranean-like climate with warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. With 121 single-unit sites including 30 tent-only spots, the facility provides amenities such as a boat ramp with accessible boarding dock, swimming beach, dump station, vault toilets, and drinking water. The area is rich in California Gold Rush history, with remnants of 1800s gold mining territory visible throughout the region. Visitors can enjoy diverse water activities including sailing, boating, and swimming, while the Union Valley Bike Trail stretches 4.8 miles along the eastern shores, and fishing opportunities include rainbow, brown, mackinaw trout, and kokanee salmon.
