The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests & Thunder Basin National Grassland offers a variety of recreation opportunities, including dispersed camping, biking, fishing, hiking, horse riding and camping, hunting & shooting, off-highway vehicles (OHV), picnicking, scenic drives, water activities, and winter sports. The California Park/Black Mountain area is located in Northern Colorado, on the west side of the Routt National Forest, and is home to the Elkhead Mountains. The Flat Tops area is managed by the Yampa Ranger District, located in Yampa, Colorado, 27 miles south of Steamboat Springs. The forest offers a range of landscapes and ecosystems, including forests, meadows, and mountain peaks.
