Sturtevant Camp is a historic hike-in wilderness camp established in 1893, located in the upper reaches of Big Santa Anita Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California, just miles from Los Angeles. Accessible only by foot or pack animal via a four-mile hike from Chantry Flat near Sierra Madre, the camp offers a genuine step back in time with no motorized vehicles, electricity only in evenings, and no wi-fi or cell service. The camp features rustic cabins and cottages accommodating 2 to 34 guests, along with shared facilities including a historic dining hall, commercial kitchen, game room with fireplace and piano, and an outdoor chapel. Guests can enjoy activities such as volleyball, badminton, ping-pong, creek swimming, and hiking to nearby peaks like Mt. Wilson and Mt. Zion, while experiencing the natural wilderness with opportunities to spot wildlife including black bears, mountain lions, and numerous bird species. The camp is operated entirely by volunteers and welcomes visitors seeking an authentic wilderness experience in the Angeles National Forest.
