Sturgeon River Watercraft Campsite

Big Falls, Minnesota

About

The Sturgeon River Watercraft Campsite is a scenic watercraft campsite located in the Koochiching State Forest. The river winds past thickly wooded shoreline, offering beautiful scenery and opportunities for recreation. Anglers will find excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, and muskie. The river's water level usually peaks in late April and falls during the summer when the rapids may be impassable. Most of the rapids on the Big Fork River are Class I-II, but two stretches are more difficult and require great caution: Little American Falls (Class III-IV) and Big Falls (Class IV-VI). The campsite is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, including the nearby Chippewa National Forest and Scenic State Park. Visitors can expect to find a peaceful and serene setting, with opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, and lake paddling. The campsite is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and visitors are encouraged to follow the rules for firewood and to be sanitary in their camping practices. Overall, the Sturgeon River Watercraft Campsite is a great destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty of the Minnesota wilderness.
