Skull Creek Campground is a small, rustic camping area located about 35 miles north of Vernal, Utah, within Ashley National Forest near Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Situated at an elevation of 7,400 feet, the campground is nestled in a hillside forest of ponderosa pines and aspens, offering partial shade and seasonal wildflower displays. The campground provides 17 single-family sites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring, along with vault toilets. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking and biking on local trails like the Red Canyon Rim Trail, fishing for rainbow and brook trout at nearby Greens Lake, and boating and swimming on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The area is known for world-class fishing opportunities and spectacular scenery, with nearby attractions including the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, Flaming Gorge Dam with guided tours, and the Green River below the dam which offers rafting opportunities featuring unique geology and Native American rock art.
