The Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests offer unlimited recreational opportunities in all seasons. The forests' scenic beauty along the backbone of Vermont's Green Mountains and New York's Finger Lakes region provide over 900 miles of trails managed for both summer and winter uses, sections of long trails like the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Long Trail, and the North Country Scenic Trail. The forests also feature outstanding campgrounds, including two designated National Recreation Areas, eight designated wilderness areas on the Green Mountain National Forest, and 3 Alpine and 4 cross-country ski areas offering some of the most spectacular skiing in the Northeast. Countless lakes and streams are available for unlimited fishing and other water activities. The Finger Lakes National Forest, positioned along the ridges between Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake, offers scenic beauty and unlimited recreational opportunities any season. The Manchester Ranger District is located in southern Vermont, from the Massachusetts border north to State Route 103 in Clarendon, Vermont. The forests are open for a variety of activities including biking, fishing, hiking, horse riding and camping, hunting & shooting, picnicking, scenic drives, water activities, and winter sports.
