Sheep Pass Group Campground is a group camping facility located centrally within Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. As one of three group campgrounds in the park, it sits at an elevation of 4,500 feet and offers a mix of sun and shade surrounded by towering rock formations and uniquely-shaped Joshua trees. The campground is ideally positioned for visitors seeking access to hiking trails, rock climbing routes, and scenic sightseeing throughout the park. The area is most popular from October through May when temperatures are mild, ranging from 70 to 90 degrees during the day. The distinctive landscape features Joshua trees—members of the yucca family with long evergreen leaves and white spring flowers—alongside massive rocks formed by ancient volcanic activity and shaped by wind and water over millions of years. Visitors may encounter desert wildlife including lizards, rattlesnakes, scorpions, ravens, squirrels, and coyotes during cooler months.
