Scott's Rapid Watercraft Campsite

Libby Township, Minnesota

About

Scott's Rapid Watercraft Campsite is located on the Mississippi River, influenced by glacial lakes Upham and Aitkin. The area features a flat landscape with meandering streams and oxbows, perfect for fishing and wildlife viewing. The campsite is near the Sandy Lake Recreation Area, which offers camping, boat launches, swimming, picnicking, fishing, and hiking. Visitors can paddle approximately a mile from the launch to reach the Mississippi River and explore the river's past in the museum at the north side of the dam. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife, including muskrat, beaver, otters, turtles, herons, hawks, osprey, eagles, and more. Much of the shoreline is privately managed for forest or agriculture, with few houses due to the river's tendency to flood. Hazards include snags, downed trees, and a diversion channel dam. The campsite is a great base for exploring the surrounding area and enjoying the beauty of the Mississippi River.
