Santa Fe Trail Campground is located on the scenic 3,310-acre Council Grove Lake in the rolling Flint Hills of eastern Kansas. The campground offers 35 reservable campsites with electric hookups, flush toilets, and modern amenities, including a group camping area that accommodates up to 75 guests. The lake, created by a dam built in 1964, is known for excellent fishing opportunities featuring crappie, catfish, and Saugeye, as well as boating with convenient on-site boat ramps. Visitors can enjoy hiking along scenic trails including the popular Pioneer Nature Trail, hunting for quail, prairie chicken, wild turkey, and deer on surrounding lands, and exploring the nearby Flint Hills National Scenic Byway through the Tallgrass Prairie Ecosystem. The historic town of Council Grove, located just 2 miles southeast, is a National Historic District featuring seven Santa Fe National Historic Trail sites and marks the area where the Osage Indians signed a treaty establishing the Old Santa Fe Trail.
