Salt Lick Watercraft Campsite
Duluth, Minnesota
About
The Salt Lick Watercraft Campsite is located along the Cloquet River, offering a scenic paddle past forested banks and occasional farmland or homes. The river level depends on releases from the Island Lake Dam, with a diverse fish population and plentiful smallmouth bass. Hazards include Class I-II rapids, and portages are available for Class II rapids. Visitors can camp at one of the numerous primitive watercraft campsites on property managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, available on a first-come, first-served basis and free of charge. The area is protected by the Minnesota buffer law, which establishes new vegetation buffers along rivers, streams, and ditches to help filter out chemicals and sediment before they reach waterways.
