The forest's rugged scenic beauty offers a wide variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, kayaking, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. Before embarking on your outdoor adventure, be prepared with maps available in several formats. Tours can sell out quickly during the busy season, so reservations must be made through Recreation.gov. The forest conducts prescribed burns annually to re-establish fire's natural role in the forest ecosystem, improve forest health, and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires.
