Penobscot Outdoor Center, also known as NEOC, is a wilderness camping and lodging destination in Maine's North Woods. The facility features two main areas: NEOC Basecamp, situated on Pockwockamus Pond just two miles from Baxter State Park, and Katahdin Forest Cabins along Compass Pond and Sunday Pond. Visitors can choose from traditional tent camping sites in various sizes, canvas cabin tents for glamping, or bunkhouses with wood walls and metal roofs. The center offers sweeping views of Katahdin, Maine's highest peak, and provides access to outdoor activities including whitewater rafting, snowmobiling, canoeing, and kayaking. Amenities at Basecamp include hot showers, volleyball, and pond access. The Katahdin Forest Cabins offer a more remote, off-grid experience available seasonally from May through November, perfect for those seeking solitude and immersion in the Maine wilderness.
