The North Dakota Forest Service manages the Pelican/Sandy Lake Recreation Area, which offers recreational opportunities in its five state forests. The area is cared for, protected, and improved to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations. The North Dakota Forest Service provides assistance to private landowners using forest management to meet their goals through the Forest Stewardship program. The area also offers conservation tree seedlings for planting, and the North Dakota Fire Declarations & Burn Restrictions Map is available for learning current conditions before burning or participating in outdoor activities. The area is home to various tree species, including aspen and spruce, and is susceptible to pests and diseases such as the emerald ash borer. The North Dakota Forest Service offers resources for educators and students about conservation of natural resources through the Outreach & Education program.
