Paynes Creek Campground is a 399-acre Corps of Engineers property leased by Hart County, located on the shores of Hartwell Lake, a man-made reservoir bordering Georgia and South Carolina. The campground features a scenic landscape of mixed pines and hardwoods with steep to moderately sloping terrain. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water-based activities including boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and jet skiing on the lake's 962 miles of shoreline. The facility offers excellent recreational amenities including a nine-mile multi-purpose trail for hiking and biking, two designated swim areas and beaches, three playgrounds, and boat launching facilities. The campground is open seasonally from March 1 through October 31 and is conveniently located near Hartwell, Georgia, accessible via Highway 51 or I-85 Exit 177.
