The Black River State Forest offers various camping opportunities, including family campgrounds at Castle Mound, East Fork, and Pigeon Creek. Group camping and backpack camping are also available. The modern family campground at Castle Mound has 35 sites, including one electric ADA-designated site, while the rustic family campgrounds at East Fork and Pigeon Creek have a total of 62 sites, all non-electric. The campgrounds include accessible shower buildings, flush and vault toilet buildings, firewood sales, garbage and recycling stations, and sanitary dump stations. Some sites at Castle Mound Campground are open year-round, while East Fork and Pigeon Creek campgrounds are open from May to October. Winter camping is available at Castle Mound and Pigeon Creek campgrounds when conditions and staffing allow.
