Ortona South is a peaceful campground set along the Caloosahatchee River in South Florida, offering a quiet, sunny escape as part of the Lake Okeechobee water resource project. The flat terrain is lined with tropical greenery, including Florida's state tree, the Sabal Palm, with picturesque pastures to the south. All campsites feature concrete pads with electric (30 and 50 amp), water hookups, fire rings, grills, and covered picnic tables. The campground provides amenities including a sanitary dump station, restrooms with showers, WiFi near the west end restroom, and a picnic pavilion for campers. Recreation focuses on simple pleasures like fishing from wooden piers where catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, tilapia, and snook are commonly caught, as well as walking, biking, and bird watching.
