Oak Grove Picnic Area is a day-use facility located on the 26,000-acre Saylorville Lake Project, which stretches over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. Situated among a heavily wooded forest of stately oak trees on the east side of the lake, the picnic area offers a large beach within walking distance and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities including white-tailed deer, turkeys, pheasants, and waterfowl. The facility provides two group picnic shelters with electric and water hookups, along with amenities such as flush toilets, a playground, volleyball court, and hiking trails. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities including boating, swimming, fishing, water skiing, and windsurfing. The nearby 24-mile Neal Smith Trail, designated as a National Recreation Trail, connects to Big Creek State Park and is popular for biking, hiking, jogging, and walking.
