About

The United States Congress designated the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in 1978 and it now has a total of 943,648 acres. Spanning the Montana-Wyoming border on the Shoshone, Gallatin, and Custer National Forests. The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness offers a wide variety of recreational activities, including backpacking, biking, boating, climbing, day hiking, driving routes, fishing, general hiking, horseback riding, horse camping, hunting, interpretive areas/exhibits, OHV camping, OHV road riding, picnicking, skiing/snowboarding, snowmobiling, swimming, and viewing scenery and wildlife. The wilderness area also features many beautiful mountain lakes and streams, as well as scenic drives and hiking trails.
