Mountain River Family Campground is a family-friendly campground nestled in the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains on the North Toe River in Newland, NC. Located at an altitude of 2,800 feet, the campground features 1,300 yards of river frontage and is known for exceptional trout fishing in the pristine North Toe River. The campground offers both nightly and weekly camping accommodations during its April through November season. Guests can enjoy river tubing on hot summer days, with tubes available for rent on-site. The campground has been voted Best Campground in Avery County, NC multiple times (2022, 2023, and 2025). Following significant damage from Hurricane Helene in September 2024, the owners have undertaken extensive reconstruction efforts to restore the facility to its former beauty and functionality.
