Lookout Campground is a remote, undeveloped gem located on the California/Nevada border just west of Reno, Nevada, at an elevation of 6,770 feet within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Nestled in a large aspen grove surrounded by lush aspen, pine, and fir forest, this campground offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking privacy and solitude. The campground features 17 first-come, first-served campsites with well-spaced sites that provide excellent privacy, plus one reservable group picnic area accommodating up to 100 people. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, grill, and tent pad, with vault toilets and trash service available. Adjacent to the campground is Crystal Peak, accessible by vehicle or short hike, and the area is popular for off-highway vehicles, wildlife viewing, and hunting. While the campground lacks electric hookups and dump stations, it provides a rustic camping experience ideal for those seeking a quiet escape in a pristine natural setting.
