About

The United States Congress designated the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in 1978 and it now has a total of 943,648 acres. Spanning the Montana-Wyoming border on the Shoshone, Gallatin, and Custer National Forests, the wilderness area is known for its diverse geology and unique wildlife. The area offers many recreational opportunities, including backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. In addition, the wilderness area is home to several campgrounds, including Aspen Glade Campground and Beartooth Lake Campground. The area is also popular for its scenic drives and fishing opportunities. The Shoshone National Forest is a beautiful and remote area, with many opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploration.
