Lake Snowden is a 675-acre education and recreation park located in Southeast Ohio, just 5 miles from Athens. The park features a 136-acre lake and is the largest of four lakes that form the Margaret Creek Conservancy District. Originally built in 1968 to control flooding and opened to the public in 1972, it was purchased by Hocking College in 1998. Lake Snowden offers a full range of family-friendly recreational activities including camping, fishing, boating, horseback riding on scenic trails, swimming at the beach, and picnicking. The park provides excellent shoreline fishing opportunities, a fish hatchery, shelter houses, and modern restroom facilities, making it a comprehensive recreation destination with natural beauty and convenient access to nearby Athens.
