The San Juan National Forest offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, OHV riding, alpine and nordic skiing, horseback riding, and camping. The forest includes four Wilderness Areas and a National Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, which is a culturally-rich area where visitors can take a step back in time and imagine the landscape as it was a thousand years ago. Visitors should expect dangerous conditions on roads and trails following the October 2025 flooding events, with deep mud, washouts, continued flooding, instability, and changing conditions. The forest's stunning scenery ranges from high desert mesas and canyons to high alpine peaks and meadows, making it a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
