About

Ivan's Recreation Area is a scenic campground located just below the Red Rock Dam on the south side of the Des Moines River in Iowa. Situated on Iowa's largest lake, Lake Red Rock, the area is conveniently positioned just 10 minutes from Pella, known for its Dutch heritage, and 15 minutes from Knoxville, the Sprint car capital of the world. The campground features hardwood forests along the riverbanks that provide shade and scenic views, with abundant wildlife including American White Pelicans, Bald eagles (November-March), white-tailed deer, and turkeys. Visitors can enjoy excellent boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, swimming, and fishing for crappie, walleye, bass, catfish, northern pike, and bluegill. The area offers miles of water trails for kayaking and canoeing, several miles of hiking and biking trails, and access to the 15-mile paved Volksweg Trail. Des Moines, Iowa's capital, is approximately one hour away with shopping, dining, museums, and the Blank Park Zoo.
