Inkpaduta Campsite

Pipestone, Minnesota

About

Inkpaduta Campsite, located along the short path connecting the South Quarry Trail and the Circle Trail in Pipestone National Monument, is a sacred ground where Dakota leader Inkpaduta and his band camped after the 1857 Spirit Lake Massacre. The site is typically considered neutral and is not usually used for camping. However, it is a significant location as it was also visited by Abigail Gardner in 1892, who pointed out the campsite. The area is surrounded by a tallgrass prairie and is wheelchair accessible. Visitors can explore the Circle Trail and the South Quarry Trail, which offer a glimpse into the history and natural beauty of the area.
