About

Indian Trees Campground is a quiet, scenic retreat located 3/4 miles off Highway 93 in the mountains of southwest Montana, within the Bitterroot National Forest. The campground sits at an elevation of about 5,100 feet and is named for the historically significant scarred ponderosa pine trees in the area, which were stripped of bark by Native American populations to extract the sweet cambium layer for food. These ancient trees now provide shade throughout the campground. The area offers access to numerous recreational activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and fishing in nearby Camp Creek for cutthroat trout. Visitors can explore several national historic trails nearby, including the Nez Perce National Historic Trail and the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, as well as the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. The campground is conveniently located less than a half-mile from Lost Trail Hot Springs, a unique sulfur-free natural hot spring perfect for swimming.
