Halfway Group Campground is a tent-only facility situated along the scenic Kern River, 4.5 miles north of Kernville in Sequoia National Forest. Located at an elevation of 3,200 feet, the campground overlooks the Kern Wild and Scenic River and offers five group sites ideal for organized camping trips. The area is known for its stunning natural features, including gray pine, scrub oak, cottonwoods, and willows along the riverbanks, with views of the surrounding canyon walls. Popular activities include hiking, fishing, kayaking, and rafting on the Upper Kern River. The campground provides basic amenities such as picnic tables and campfire rings, though visitors should note there is no drinking water available and portable toilets are the only sanitation facilities. The nearby Cannell Meadow National Recreation Trail, which begins just north of Kernville, offers an 11.5-mile hiking experience through mixed pine and fir forest with historic views.
