About

Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve is a 1,386-acre nature preserve located on Dutton Road, north of Goodenow Road, in Crete Township. The preserve is part of the Plum Creek preservation system, which conserves more than 3,300 acres. Prior to the District's acquisition of the land, it was used as a Boy Scout camp. A 541-acre portion of the site was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1996, providing permanent protection for the natural resources at the preserve. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as geocaching, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, picnicking, hiking/running, ice skating, sledding, horseback riding, camping, biking, and cross-country skiing. The preserve has a visitor center open on Wednesday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and trails including the Plum Creek Greenway Trail.
