About

Flying Eagle Preserve is a 10950-acre property surrounded by the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes and connected to the Floridan aquifer's hydrologic system. The Withlacoochee River forms a portion of the eastern property boundary and is a vital component of regional drainage and flood conveyance. The property is a mosaic of small lakes, marshes, and swamps, with numerous scattered islands of forested uplands. A broad mixture of hardwood and cypress swamps covers the floodplain of the Withlacoochee River. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as birding, hiking, bicycling, equestrian, fishing, hunting, and camping. The property features approximately 22 miles of multiuse trails for bicyclists, and bird watching sites are available for nature enthusiasts. The preserve is open to the public from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset, unless otherwise authorized by the District.
