About

Elkmont Campground is the largest and busiest campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located eight miles from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, at an elevation of 2,150 feet. The campground features 200 tent/RV campsites with paved driveways, gravel tent pads, fire rings, and picnic tables, plus 20 walk-in tent sites nestled in wooded areas. Little River and Jakes Creek run through the campground, providing waterfront camping opportunities and excellent fishing access. The area is renowned for its natural beauty, with over 800 miles of maintained hiking trails accessible from the campground, including the popular Laurel Falls Trail leading to an 80-foot waterfall. Visitors can enjoy wildlife viewing, picnicking, and auto touring while experiencing one of the world's most biologically diverse temperate zones, home to approximately 1,500 bears and countless other species. The campground also offers glimpses of historic structures from the area's logging and resort past.
