About

Point Washington State Forest, located in the southernmost portion of Walton County, is a 15,407-acre forest managed by the Florida Forest Service. The forest features 10 natural communities, including sandhill, basin swamps, and cypress swamps. It is home to several threatened and endangered species, such as the American kestrel, gopher tortoise, and flatwoods salamander. The forest offers various outdoor recreation activities, including hunting, off-road bicycling, and hiking. The Eastern Lake Trail System is a 3.5-, 5-, or 10-mile loop trail suitable for hikers and bicyclists. The forest is part of the Point Washington Wildlife Management Area and the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulates hunting seasons and game limits in the forest.
