Dutchman Campground is located in a shady Ponderosa pine forested area on the northeast edge of Deerfield Reservoir at 5,000 feet elevation within Black Hills National Forest. This campground is the most RV-friendly of the three facilities in the Deerfield Recreation Area, offering widely spaced sites with a few providing views of the lake. The setting provides an ideal balance of recreation and relaxation, with lake access within walking distance. The campground features picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water, though electrical hookups are not available. Situated in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, the area encompasses nearly 1.25 million acres of rugged rock formations, canyons, gulches, open grasslands, tumbling streams, and deep blue lakes. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound with bighorn sheep, elk, deer, pronghorn, and numerous bird species including bald eagles, hawks, osprey, and peregrine falcons.
