The floodplain helps filter nutrients in runoff waters, and the creek threads its way through an expanse of cypress and hardwood forests. The property is open to the public from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset, and offers various recreation opportunities such as hiking, bicycling, equestrian activities, fishing, and camping. The preserve is also home to approximately 5 miles of paved multiuse trails and 11 miles of unpaved multiuse trails.
