Collins Lake is a 1,600-acre recreation area nestled in the California gold country foothills, just over an hour northeast of Sacramento between Marysville and Grass Valley. The lake features 12 miles of shoreline and is renowned for its exceptional fishing, particularly for bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. Collins Lake operates an impressive private trout planting program, introducing more than 50,000 trout annually—the largest private planting program north of Sacramento—with many trophy-sized fish ranging from 3 to 8 pounds. The facility offers comprehensive amenities including RV hookups, boat launch and marina with rentals, a sandy swimming beach, children's playground, beach volleyball, picnic areas, general store, laundry, and hot showers. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, wakeboarding, skiing, kayaking, and beach activities year-round, with the park opening at sunrise daily. The facility is famous not only for its fishing opportunities but also for its monstrous ice cream cones.
