About

Cochiti Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation, featuring Cochiti Lake at 5,343 feet elevation in the foothills of the Jemez Mountains. The campground consists of four loops offering a mix of electric and non-electric sites, with Buffalo Grove Loop providing full water and electric hookups. The area is dominated by juniper and pinon trees with mixed grasslands, offering spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water activities including fishing for bass, crappie, walleye, pike, catfish, sunfish and trout, as well as paddling, windsurfing, and sailing on this quiet, no-wake lake. The recreation area features a family-friendly swim beach day use area, wildlife viewing opportunities including osprey, deer, coyote, river otters, and occasional bears, plus hiking, biking, and access to nearby Tent Rocks National Monument just five miles away.
