Cherokee Landing is a small outfitter located on Missouri's Big River in Bonne Terre, offering canoe, raft, kayak, and float tube rentals along with camping facilities. Situated on the upper portion of the Big River, a tributary of the Meramec River, the park provides access to a relatively safe, slow-moving Ozark stream ideal for families, beginners, and experienced paddlers alike. The Big River marks the southern boundary of St. Francois State Park, featuring scenic dolomite bluffs, grassy forest openings called glades, and forested ridges. Visitors can enjoy fishing for bass, catfish, and sunfish, swimming in designated holes, picnicking on gravel bars, and artifact hunting. As the only outfitter on this portion of the river, Cherokee Landing avoids the overcrowded conditions found on other Missouri float rivers. The location offers easy highway access and is within an hour of St. Louis, making it convenient for day trips and weekend getaways.
