Cerro Alto Campground is a well-known hiking and mountain biking destination located within Los Padres National Forest, situated in a mixed oak, pine, and sycamore forest at approximately 1,000 feet elevation. The campground is positioned in a verdant canyon pass along a semiannual mountain creek, less than 10 miles from the sandy beaches of Morro Bay, where visitors can enjoy surfing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, and scuba diving. The 4-mile Cerro Alto Trail begins within the campground and leads to the peak with 360-degree views of the Central California coast and inland valleys. Beyond outdoor recreation, the nearby towns of Morro Bay and Atascadero offer dining, shopping, and museums, while the Paso Robles wine region is just 20 miles away. The campground also serves as an excellent base for exploring historic Hearst Castle, the quaint coastal towns of San Luis Obispo, Cayucos, Harmony, and Cambria, and day spa experiences at nearby Avila and Grover beaches.
