About

Carter Lake is located in the foothills west of Loveland at an elevation of 5,760 feet. It is a part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. The purpose of this water project is to divert water from the western slope of the Rocky Mountains to the eastern slope. The lake is a popular spot for outdoor recreation, including camping, fishing, and boating. Visitors can expect to find standard-sized campsites without electric hookups, as well as vault restrooms and drinking water. Generators are allowed outside of quiet hours, and water is available at frost-free spigots year-round. The surrounding area offers scenic views and opportunities for hiking and exploring.
