Buffalo Camp is a campground located on the Sun Prairie unit, approximately 40 miles south of Malta, Montana. The property is accessed via 45 miles of gravel and unimproved road which becomes impassable when wet and requires an AWD or 4WD vehicle. The position comes with a full hook-up for parking a camping trailer. The volunteer role at Buffalo Camp involves monitoring wildlife and vehicle movement, providing information to the public, and reporting damage or issues to the Volunteer Manager. The volunteer will be present in the staff housing or driving roads on the property during duty hours. The position is available from late August through late November, 2026, with flexible arrival and departure dates. An average of 30 hours per week will be required. The general schedule will be 7am-10am and 3pm-6pm Thursday through Monday, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. The volunteer will receive a $300 monthly reimbursement for personal expenses incurred by volunteering, mileage reimbursement, and Workers’ Compensation.
