Bird Island Basin is a recreational area on the Laguna Madre at Padre Island National Seashore. It is one of only two access points to Laguna Madre, the other being Yarborough Pass located 15 miles down South Beach. Getting to Laguna Madre at Yarborough Pass requires a 4-Wheel-Drive vehicle, whereas anyone can get to Bird Island Basin. Bird Island Basin has a campground that can accommodate tent campers and RVs and a boat ramp for motorboats. It is considered one of the best windsurfing locations in the United States. Park concessionaire Worldwinds Windsurfing offers lessons and equipment sales and rentals. You can also rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.
